If you’re like me or perhaps you live with a hoarder of photographic gear than you need to get in the attic and see if you have any Nikon equipment that needs dusting off. My favourite camera shop, Grays of Westminster, are looking for any manual focus AiS Nikkor lenses in new or lightly used condition. The giveaway that you are holding an AiS (automatic index – Shutter) lens is if there is a machined groove in the base of the lens – if you’re being pedantic, the groove is known as a lens type signal notch among camera engineers and weekend train spotters. Nikon equipment enjoys a very large fan base and, as such, demand from collectors for mint condition gear of any age is very strong. The equipment in the photo lives in my own private camera museum (so sorry Gray – hands off)! The F body, which was the mother of all modern film cameras when it was introduced, was appropriately my mum’s – who is now happily using a digital compact.
