There is currently an ongoing debate about the moral principles of publishing retouched images. It surrounds airbrushing photos of models and celebrities – a process which may or may not be influencing how others approach their dieting and other lifestyle choices. My own personal take on the issue of retouching is that if people find such images unacceptable, then stop buying the magazines and the products advertised using this method. My concern is more about hard news images and how manipulated photos may subtely change the way the facts are displayed to us. On a more cheery note, I think that playing around with an image on your PC/Mac desktop is a great way of finding out more about digital photography and will help enhance a photographer’s enjoyment and understanding of image-taking. There are times when an photo can be improved with a subtle tweek or in more extreme cases – such as in my photo posted here – can be turned in to a ‘picture’.
