Bespoke photography workshops for business, academia and public sector organisations

"“Thanks for a fantastic session, the whole team got a huge amount from it and loved your really relaxed, interactive and fun teaching style. Would recommend the training session to anyone.” Gareth Bell, Communications Manager.

For almost two decades I have been providing bespoke photography workshops for all manner of organisations and businesses to advise their staff on how to produce better photography to be used across a wide spectrum of media.

Whilst there is rarely any better alternative than calling on the services of a professional photographer to produce quality business imaging, the reality is that for a lot of everyday photography requirements - ie. posting on social networking websites, internet use and surveying - employees are called upon to use photography as part of their jobs.

Working with a wide variety of professionals ranging from Press officers, engineers and youth workers to estate agents and even professional medical photographers, I’ve helped to fine-tune individuals’ knowledge of PR and Press photography by tailoring a day’s workshop to suit their particular needs. The content of workshops has varied from understanding how the office camera works to shooting for the cover of your trade magazines. I’ve also hosted photography “away days” as part of clients’ team-building programmes.

The following are snapshots of some of the topics that have been covered in workshops to date:

Camera “bits”: Understanding your camera’s menu, functions and modes and how to use them
Planning your shot: Developing good camera handling skills and a journalistic photographic eye to achieve technically sound photographs that are worth using
Tricks and tips: Using the professional tricks of the trade to get the best out of the people you’re photographing
Equipment: Cameras, accessories, kit strengths and limitations
Photography basics: Getting technically good shots by planning composition. Dealing with problems
What makes a great news photograph?: The golden rules, examples and analysis
People are good news stories: Planning, posing options, location options, lighting options, working with the sitter, taking charge and giving the sitter confidence, achieving the “wow” factor
Building success: Understanding light, keeping vertical and square
